Finding accommodation in Jakarta
is no a big deal. a wide range of hotels are available depending
on how much you are willing to spend. Most of the high end hotels
are located on central Jakarta, and so are the backpackers 'hotel'.
If you are not to fussy about hygiene and all you need is a bed
for the night you could save a lot of money by looking into the
the cockroach motels (the suitable tern here in perhaps "rat
motels") in less prestigious areas.
Youth hotels
The favorite place for backpackers although here people still
refer them as 'youth hotels', age has not seem to matter in these
places. There are three parallel roads with row of hostels and
budget warung makan(eating places). The first established and
the most famous is Jl. Jaksa. The other two are Jl. Kebon Sirih
Timur Dalam to the east and Jl. Kebon Sirih Barat Dalam To the
west. There three roads run between Jl. Wahid Hasyim and Jl.
Kebon Sirih. If you take the Damri bus from the airport. you
alight at the gambir train station, walk south to cross Jl. Merdeka
Selatan, walk along Jl. Ridwan Rais, and turn right at Jl . Kebon
Sirih. Walk a few more minutes until you find the sign of Jl.
Jaksa on the left side. All you have to do is turn left....and
there you are. Some hotels only have shared bath, others have
upgraded rooms with private baths. The rates range from Rp. 15.000
to Rp. 35.000 per night.
Melati hotels
This type of hotels used
to be called losmen, but due to the government's encouragement
to use the word hotel, these types of accommodation are now called
Melati or Jasmine hotel. Melati hotels
are of lower to lower-middle end hotels differentiated by number,
Melati I or Melati II respectively.The centrally located Melati
II hotels can be found in Jl. Wahid Hasyim, Tanah Abang area,
Pasar Baru, Kemayoran and Kota area.
Guest House or Apartment
For long staying quest it is more convienent to a rent room in
a guest house or an apartment. You may find the Ascott Jakarta
in central Jakarta, Park Royal in west Jakarta, and the Palm
Court in south-east Jakarta. Ratu plaza Apartments, Senopati,
or Aditya Mansion in south Jakarta. IF you are willing to travel
further south, there is Hotel Kristal. There are some smaller
guest house in thePejaten and Kemang areas.
Star Hotels
Star hotels can be found all around Jakarta. However most of
5 star hotels are located along Jl. Thamrin, Jl. Sudirman and
on Jl. Gatot Subroto close to the south on the north side, close
to the sea shore there are two hotels within the Taman Impian
Jaya Ancol. Area south Jakarta also developed as good as central
Jakarta, but on a smaller scale. There are also two hotels in
the busiest section of Blok M. To the great number of economical
hotels for asian businessman commuting to the commercial area
of kota, you can find some star hotels. |
